in, and after an evening of incredible spelling and fun, here are the
results of Kingston Literacy’s 12th Annual Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee: Best Spellers: Skeleton Park Skeletomologists (Skot Caldwell, Steven Heighton, Adam Newman) Best Speller Runners-Up: Kingston Frontenac Public Library (Sara Carpenter, Wilma Kenny, Christina Tracy) Best Team Spirit: Frontenac Secondary School (Winter Pearl Tekenos-Levy, Sarah Taslimi, Heather Yates) Best Costumes: TD Canada Trust (Shannon Falcao, Harriet Johnston, Jean Roff) Most Pledges Raised: TD Canada Trust (Shannon Falcao, Harriet Johnston, Jean Roff) Amount Raised for Kingston Literacy’s Family Literacy Programs: $17,020.75 Bizarre quirk of fate of the evening: Best-selling author Steven Heighton was a part of the team of Best Spellers. One week from the night of the Bee, on Thursday May 18th, at 7 p.m., Steven Heighton will be the focus of another Kingston Literacy fundraising event when he does a reading in the Wilson Room at the downtown branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, while Card’s Bakery will provide incredible desserts for intermission. Tickets for this event are $15, and are available in advance at Indigo Books and Music, or at the door while they last.
