We offer a variety of courses that were created with employers to help you develop the Essential Skills needed to work in certain industries. Each course provides career related exercises to help improve skills in reading, writing, math, computers, and the soft skills needed for success in the workplace.

These courses are meant to improve the Essential Skills you will need in these fields. More training may be needed to work in some areas.

One-to-one tutoring:

You will meet with a staff member to get acquainted, have an assessment, and set goals. Afterwards students and tutors will meet for about two hours each week. Staff will continue to be available for advice and support.


About Community Learning Centres

The Community Learning Centres, in Kingston, Napanee, and Hartington, help people upgrade their skills so that they can move on to their next stop, whether that is employment, further education or increased independence.

How do I sign up?

Call the centre nearest you and we will make an appointment for you with a staff member. Together, you will decide which classes are best for you, according to your goals and schedule, and create an individualized training plan to help you meet your goals.

How big are the classes?

Instruction and training is available in small groups or one-to-one tutoring environments, at a variety of times.

What can you expect from your instructor?

You can expect a positive and supportive instructor who will help guide you in reaching your education or employment goals. All our instructors are experienced adult educators.

Transportation and childcare subsidies are available for those who qualify.

Do you dream about going to college, but don’t have the right background?

The ACE (Academic and Career Entrance) program offers FREE courses that are recognized as Grade 12 equivalencies for admission to college and apprenticeship programs. You can take just the specific courses required for acceptance into a particular program. Or, you can complete an ACE certificate (Gr. 12 equivalency certificate).

To earn an ACE certificate the following courses must be completed.

    1 English

1 Math from:

2 electives from:

Apprenticeship Math

Technology Math

Business Math

Biology

Chemistry

Computers

Physics

Self Direction/Management

 

 

 


Participants will receive ongoing support and interaction with an instructor as they complete their course work.
